WHY IS THIS NEEDED?
Individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and other disabilities face significant barriers to find social opportunities within their community and face increased instances of social isolation.
HOW WILL THIS PROJECT HELP?
The grantee will develop, administer, and evaluate the mini-grant programs focused on high-poverty, rural counties in year 1, and expanding to include high-poverty urban counties in years 2-3. These mini-grant initiatives will support the development of innovative, inclusive, integrated community-based social opportunities for people with IDD and other disabilities and their peers (with and without disabilities). The mini-grant program goals will include the following: reducing social isolation and developing social opportunities; supporting development of social skills, soft skills and prevocational skills; and exploring innovative transportation solutions to support community participation of people with IDD.
