Outreach to New Americans with Disabilities
Project Status: Active
Grantee: NYS Office for New Americans (ONA)
Funding Amount: $150,000 per year
Grant period: 7/2019 - 6/2022
WHY IS THIS NEEDED?
New Americans face cultural and linguistic barriers in accessing developmental disability-related information, resources, and services. These barriers can negatively impact social outcomes and result in disparities among New Americans with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
HOW WILL THIS PROJECT HELP?
ONA is uniquely situated to reach underserved communities and staff have expertise in delivering culturally-competent programming and resources. This initiative will ensure that ONA staff have increased capacity to work with and serve individuals with IDD and their families and that New Americans with IDD and their families will have increased knowledge about disability resources, information and services.
