Project Status:  Active

Grantee:  Cornell University

Funding Amount:  $50,000 for one year

Grant Period:  1/2018 - 12/2018

WHY IS THIS NEEDED?
In New York State, there are an estimated 2.5 million individuals with limited English proficiency (LEP). Spanish and Chinese speakers constitute over half of the total LEP population in New York. Our research has shown that individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (ID/DD) and their family members who speak Spanish or the Chinese languages would benefit from a Partners-in-Policymaking (PIP). A feasibility study is the first step in developing a PIP course in other languages.

HOW WILL THIS PROJECT HELP?
This grant initiative is the first step in developing a culturally and linguistically competent PIP program. This grant will fund a feasibility study which will review the programmatic and administrative components of developing a PIP course for Spanish and Chinese speakers and recommend the best course of action.
