Abuse Prevention Strategic Planning
Project Status: Active
Grantee: NYS Disabilities Advocacy Association and Network
Funding Amount: $75,000
Grant period: 4/2018 - 9/2019
WHY IS THIS NEEDED?
Individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities are at an increased risk of experiencing any one of the many forms of exploitation, abuse, and violence. Given the many differing types of abusive and exploitative scenarios, this project aims to uncover the best ways to prevent abuse and exploitation.
HOW WILL THIS PROJECT HELP?
As more and more people are moving out into the community, the need for good prevention methods is increasing. The goal of this project is for one grantee to research the topic of abuse and exploitation prevention, and to write a strategic plan the DDPC can follow to do more targeted work in this area. The grantee will hold focus groups and interviews with individuals, as well as do background research and understand the materials that exist and their strengths and weakness. The grantee will then make recommendations for work to do in this area.
