March is Developmental Disability Awareness Month

Albany, NY, March 16, 2017 - Since 1987, March has been designated as Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month. The month acknowledges the many contributions of individuals living with a developmental disability, and highlights the barriers that people with developmental disabilities still face in connecting to community life.

The National Association of Councils on Developmental Disabilities has launched a social media campaign to illustrate the many ways in which people with and without developmental disabilities come together to form strong, diverse communities. NACDD is asking that you to show your support on social media for people with developmental disabilities and their families by using the hashtag #DDawareness17 throughout the month of March. You can download the Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month 2017 Resource Guide and Social Media Tools from the NACDD website at http://nacdd.org/ddam/.

Please join the New York State Developmental Disabilities Planning Council in celebrating the many accomplishments of individuals with developmental disabilities, and in recognizing individuals with developmental disabilities as important and valued members of our community.
